The Mountain Between Us is directed by Hany Abu-Assad. Abu-Assad has received two Academy Award nominations: in 2006 for his film Paradise Now, and again in 2013, at the 86th Awards, for his film Omar. The Mountain Between us is adapted from the book written by Charles Martin. This movie features Idris Alba and Kate Winslet as well some screen time with Beau Bridges and Dermot Mulroney. Two strangers, a surgeon going home for a important surgery and a photographer on the way to her own wedding crash in a single engine plane and they are left to fight the elements together along with an unnamed dog. I liked Kate Winslet and Idris Alba on screen together. I believed the friendship then the unlikely romance that developed between them. It's said that when you're in a near death situation with someone a bond forms and that's exactly what we are seeing on screen.
My ThoughtsThis movie was perfection. I don't say that lightly. I was uplifted and inspired when I walked out of that theater. While watching the movie, I could relate with some of the things happening to Dorothy Vaughan (Octavia Spencer). In 2016 women are still being taken advantage of in the work place. From equal pay to getting the correct title and pay for the work they are doing. This really hit home for me in a major way. I've been dealing with this for a white in my recent history so I could relate to her and it angered me. Once I was able to shake off my anger from those initial scenes, I was enthralled by these women.

Overall they did take expected liberties and changed some notable things, but even with those changes, it was a strong adaption and maintained the framework of the original story. Well before I read the short story, I found the movie trailer just amazing. After seeing the movie, I felt that the trailer wasn't a good representation of what the movie delivered. I enjoyed the movie, so it was a small thing, but it still was one of the things that I noted in my first reactions. So just be aware of that.
